Wing foil is the hottest new water sport in the world, and for good reason. It combines elements of kitesurfing, windsurfing, and surfing into one incredibly fun, accessible sport. If you haven’t tried it yet, here’s everything you need to know.
What is wing foil exactly? Wing foiling involves riding a hydrofoil board (which lifts you above the water surface) while holding a handheld inflatable wing that catches the wind. Unlike kitesurfing, there’s no kite overhead. The wing is held in your hands, giving you total control. Unlike windsurfing, the wing isn’t attached to the board, you can drop it and surf waves if you want.
Is wing foil hard to learn? It’s easier than you might think! Most people can get their first flights above the water in a 3-hour intro session. The key is learning to handle the wing first (which takes about 30–45 minutes), then getting comfortable on the foil board. Our instructors at Zanzikite break it down step by step.
Why Jambiani is perfect for wing foil: Warm water, consistent wind, and the shallow Mwendawima lagoon mean you can learn in complete safety. If you wipe out, the water is waist-deep in many areas!
