Zanzibar is one of the few places in the world where you can kitesurf almost year-round. Located just off the coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean, the island benefits from two distinct wind seasons driven by the monsoon system.
The main season (Kusi): May to October. This is the southeast trade wind season, the best time to learn kitesurfing in Zanzibar. Winds blow consistently from 15 to 30 knots, making conditions ideal for beginners and advanced riders alike. At Zanzikite’s Jambiani spot, the flat Mwendawima lagoon is perfect for your first flights on our brand new Ozone kites.
The second season (Kaskazi): December to February. The northeast winds bring a shorter but reliable second wind season. Slightly gustier than the main season, but still great for experienced kiters and refresher courses.
March-April and November are the transitional months with lighter winds, but still possible to ride on good days. Not ideal for learning.
The bottom line: if you want to learn to kitesurf in Zanzibar, plan your trip between May and October for the most consistent conditions. Ready to book? Message us on WhatsApp!
